Lawyer says wealthy fathers should ‘fear’ McCartney divorce judgement
A leading national family lawyer based in Burton-upon-Trent said last night that wealthy fathers had grounds to fear the scale of future awards to children in divorce cases - following the decision in the McCartney-Mills High Court case.
Michael Vale, a partner at Else Solicitors specialising in family law, said the High Court award to four-year-old Beatrice McCartney of £35,000 a year, plus the cost of a nanny and school fees, would amount to a huge sum payable which could be payable until the end of her time at university.

Pre-nuptial agreements - the jury is still out
As a principle, pre-nuptial agreements are said not to be binding on English courts. However, in view of a recent case, legal opinion is now some what divided.
The case concerned a Mr and Mrs Crossley. He was a wealthy property developer; she a serial divorcee. With a bride to be who had amassed an £18 million fortune and three ex husbands, it was no wonder that Mr Crossley signed up his intended to a pre-nup. The deal was that if the union went sour she could not get her hands on his own fortune of £42 million.

Else Commercial Solicitors exhibited at the icm08 Credit Management Convention, which was held at ExCel in London on 6th March. The convention is organised by the Institute of Credit Management (ICM) and aimed at those working in the credit and debt recovery industries and included a conference, exhibition and awards dinner. The conference covered the most topical areas of debate affecting the credit industry and contributors came from a broad cross section of credit management professionals. The event was ICM's biggest, most ambitious and most successful to date.
